This project involves us working alongside the Stable Family Home Trust who provide day care services and supported housing to adults with learning difficulties in the New Forest and Bournemouth areas
We have been asked to review the arrangement and condition of the current accommodation for Day Care service provision and prepare proposals for improvements to invest and expand the services offered. These are now mostly complete, being constructed in a collaborative client, consultant and contractor team arrangement.
The existing accommodation had become institutional in feel, ad hoc and pragmatic to the detriment of the room identity and the experience within.
We provided proposals to generate a welcome, clear identity of room usage and critically social spaces that will foster and frame relationships between services users for where this is their community.
We restored the existing Stable block entrance to improve legibility and pick up compliance with current regulations and best practice, whilst offering a welcoming home and connections to the surrounding landscape.
Project research has involved reviewing the needs across the spectrum of neurodiversity and the importance of transition spaces and other specific user perspectives to develop architecture proposals that will serve the people that use them.
